Niko Bellic Talks About His Life!

Hi, this is Niko; So you're looking at my blog here and you are thinking what-the-funk? You don't know what-the-funk to think.

What-the-funk is it about? Well, it is about my ideas (and your ideas if you'd care to write in), about where we would like to see the game going and what we would like the game to develop into.

Right now, I'm here outside my $1,000,000 apartment in the posh part of town, but things have not always been so good, let me tell you... .

Niko Bellic Talks About His Life!

Rags to Riches.
I came here, working my way on a cargo ship that was supposed to pay my fare and give me some spending cash for when I landed. But, like all things in this place, I got jerked over by the captain, who left me stranded with no-cash and no-place to stay because of that.

Yes, things were hard, but I learn quickly and asked around a little. I soon found a place to stay, even though it was just a flee-bag Motel where I had to pay for lodgings by giving the old-dog-of-a-landlady a seeing-to nightly, (if you know what I mean)!

I found work on the docks stacking empties, but when we were laid-off, I competed for work delivering Pizzas, manning a vendor stand selling things like hot-dogs, nuts, burgers or ice-cream, or working in a factory making wooden pallets.

There is high unemployment here, but it is not a fault with the economy, just the fact that there are too many illegal immigrants and not enough work to go round.

The police and immigration are constantly checking your papers to see if you are legally working here, if not, you get sent to jail for breaching immigration.

The irony is, that if you remain here with or without a visa for more than 6 months, even if you are forceably detained here for more then six months, you can apply for citizenship and they cannot refuse you according to their own laws and rules. It is really stupid, I can tell you.

A stint in jail gives you time to think and makes you value freedom more!

A stint in their jail teaches you a few things that you would have never known existed otherwise. It's a real experience, (and you will have to find out for yourself (if the game ever gets developed)). I worked my way up in the world; You know, they do not even accept foreign driving licences here. You have to work for and earn everything.

Get A Life!
I had to learn to work hard and save my money and spend and invest it wisely. (Even though I have done a few things that I am not proud of, in order to get ahead here); It pays to keep your nose clean or else you get everything taken away.

They run this three-strike system, depending upon your crime or failing, you get fined heavily the first time, next you get a fine and a prison sentence. Finally, you're gone! Here, life means life! (You get to start again, (or from a previous save point).

Everything is a test here, ass-holes test your patience, police test how fast you can run or drive, criminal gangs test your driving skills.

There are test to pass before you can legally drive or ride a motorcycle, extra test by businesses like taxi firms to see if you have 'the-knowledge'.

There are test to drive public service vehicles and specialist driving training and tests for you to drive buses, lorries or big rigs, trash-masters and fire-trucks. Even the cable car needs pilot training and testing.

If you really get on in this world, like I have, you will have to pass tests to pilot different classes of vehicles, ranging from tug-boats, ferry boats, fun cruisers and water taxi's to limmos, helicopter-tours, helicopter-taxi's and light-planes through to jets and larger aircraft. There is even a sightseeing blimp that people can base-jump from.

Everything is tests, tests, tests! But then, that's just like it is in the real world. So, at least we have the realism. This is a dangerous place too, you know, I have to carry a gun!

I keep the large weaponry in the trunk of a car, but otherwise, you can only carry what people can't see. As soon as you bring out your M16, people get a little skitterish and start calling the police. Oooh, help-me, help-me, help-me.

I can manage to conceal either an M16, AK47 or an M14, or even a shotgun, beneath my trench-coat, Matrix-Style. Anyway, it goes without saying, if someone were to bring out a rocket-launcher next to you in the restaurant where you were on a date with your girl-friend, then you'd get a little skitterish too wouldn't you?

Hey! I see you!

Yo! We can see you too!

Once you have been around for a while and made a few contacts, you may well come to the attention of people that you'd rather not meet. People are always on the look out for someone who can get things done!
You may well find that time is not on your side and good friends are hard to come by. Saving a life or two and doing favours here and there really helps your future rep with people. You never know when friends are going to be needed.

Almost everyone I have ever worked for in the past, have always said that I have done an excellent job and that they wished that they had ten more of me! After I got settled, but before I became really wealthy, I had people pleading with me to go and work for them. A good reputation is just as hard to shake as a bad one!

I had the choice of working when and where I wanted, even picking up the odd new business tip from time to time. This has allowed me to start and develop my own business interests, with a lot of hard work and saved capital put into the business.

It is good to build and develop businesses and help people earn more money. I see myself as an avenging angel, cleaning up the run-down and disused industrial and retail areas in Liberty City. Bringing the city back to life, I still have to play ball with corrupt officials and my past crime-syndicate attachments, however, I do my best to keep a low profile and hide those misdemeanour's as they happen.

There is nothing I can do about it, my past life is a part of me and it cannot be changed. All I can do is do my best to survive and prosper in a world that forgets the good and is unforgiving of past crimes.

It is no-good, people won't see all the jobs you've created or money you've invested to make those businesses work. They just see an ex-con, who has hidden his past, take everything from you and throw you in jail.

Even now, just between you and I, there is a large shipment of drugs sitting in one of my warehouses. I've tried to run an honest business, but my contacts with the local king-pin, discovered my shady past and are holding me to ransom over that. Well, at least they give me a percentage of the take too, but that only serves to entangle me more, so that I have no defence if the law gets involved. They're smart these crooks!

Since I am involved, I do my best to make sure everyone is taken care of, right down to the hookers on the street who are also selling dope.

Its ironic, criminals like me policing other crooks! Its a dirty job, but someone has to do it! It helps to keep a lid on sales of drugs to schools and along with the king-pin, together we manage to stamp out any little uprising dealers that try to get a foot-hold!

(Each time I say, "The Greater Good," you have to say, "The Greater Good," straight after me, have a jolly and join in. You might even put a smile on your face)! [Hot Fuzz -Simon Pegg].

The Greater Good! (The Greater Good)!

It pays to keep our illegal businesses out of the public eye, the last thing we need are under-age junkies and alcoholics drawing attention to the problem of drugs on the street.

Its all for the Greater Good.
(The Greater Good)!

So, it's a fine line we tread, both sides of the law and in-between! Juggling ill-gotten gains and fronting that money through legal businesses. It is a real struggle, but that's life, such as it is!
But remember, it is all for The Greater Good! (The Greater Good)!

I'm doing well now, I own most of the city, but I'll never be able to run for Mayor. Too many people would try to cash in on that and make my life totally miserable. Not that I'd welcome that job, I prefer to manage and run my businesses and deal with life's little problems as they arise.

It maybe that one friend will want another of my friends killed or opposing gangs are fighting over a drugs shipment, that will tear the city apart and damage my businesses and income if I don't step in personally. So I have to step in and I do!

If all this goes to shit for me, at least you now have the heads-up information that I never had when I arrived in this fair city. Perhaps you will want to try your hand at building something for yourself.

What's the point of life without any challenges? I'm not one for a 9 to 5 for forty years, to retire with a carriage clock and a pension that doesn't even pay the bills.

So, its over to you. Lets see if you can build your business empire whilst everyone around you is either ignorant of your situation or is trying to throw a spanner in the works at every turn you make!

Anyway, it's time for me to go, I've got a date with your sister. I will tell you some more when next we meet!

Niko..
Don't be a mug, get ahead, get a life!
Have a great day!
