GTAV A NewGTAgame!

EXCLUSIVE Interview with Rockstar North about Grand Theft Auto 5

Imran Sarwar (Rockstar Norths lead mission designer and producer of GTAV), talks to Tim and Dan of GTA5 O'Clock.

Its an AUDIO in VIDEO FORMAT! (So no need for full-screen).

Car Customization.
All the usual things you'd expect like:- paint jobs, wheels and tires, engine tune-ups, turbo etc, (and the horn), as well as more unrealistic stuff like nitro, roll cages, armor-plating and bullet-proof tires.

I am not going to list the whole video content here like an index, just the things that I particularly don't agree with and some of the improvements I think are great!
  • Stunt jumps are still in the game. You heard him! So that goes out to the ney-sayers I was talking to a few weeks ago. I think GTA will always have stunt jumps.
  • When your petrol tank is shot in leaks petrol out onto the road, and it can be ignited. I think this is a nice realistic touch. I just hope that there are not more than one explosion of the car, like they do in the films. (Three explosions from one car fuel tank is unreal).
  • Guns that run out of ammo are not thrown away like in GTA4 - Great, I always thought that was a stupid thing to do, like in a desert movie where people are dying of thirst, throw away their water container when it is empty. (What if they find some more water)?
  • Slow down time? What a load of rubbish! This game will eventually go to the dogs if R* keep doing stuff like this. Slowing time is unrealistic, (unless we are just doing it for video replay purposes). But, to use it to control a car through oncoming traffic is totally unreal. Before I even heard of the slowing time thing, I was saying that the swerving through the oncoming traffic in the game-play video was totally unreal. It didn't look right and it was like watching a scalextric toy race-car go round a toy race circuit.

Why do I say that nitro, roll cages, armor-plating and bullet-proof tires are unreal?  Well, when was the last time you drove an armor plated, nitrous fueled car with bullet-proof tires unless you are 007?

There is a guy down the street from me who has a customised car, done up like a rally car, it looks the part, but none of the suspension nor engine is anything special. Even his roll cage is fake, just for looks. The only point I'm making here is that it is not necessary to have roll cages and nitrous, armor plating or bullet proof tires. Yes, they are good ideas for the limousine and executive cars for a business in the game. Part of the game strategy is about making your car last throughout the mission.

The point they were making about when the cops shoot-out your tires in GTA4, its never been a problem for me, I can always escape from the police because they are too easy to evade. Except perhaps when you are on six stars and there are lots of swat teams around you and that only happens in certain missions or unless you are like me and go looking to get the police attention.

Next, most of the cars drive well enough to still drive on the rims without tires!

GTA RockStarGames are losing the plot! Despite what they said a few years ago about keeping it real.

The main video of one of the Houser brother talking about 'keeping it real' has disappeared from the internet, but I remember it well and just a few remnants of the original video remain as clips from the video. But, unfortunately, not the part were they are talking about 'keeping GTA realistic'. It all went to hell when GTA inroduced the Jet Pack and still had many other silly things in the game like RPG's (When was the last time you got your hands on an RPG? Or found weapons fully loaded, laying around the streets and then return six hours later to find another there again - totally stupid!)

Here a little hint toward what the Housers were saying a few years ago:-
  • 'Houser strives for a realistic urban feel in his games.  There is a team of five at Rockstar dedicated to full-time study of street slang, architecture, and other elements that ensure the GTA games have an authentic taste.  While Grand Theft Auto IV was in production, Houser himself walked the city’s Russian districts as his research team grilled New York’s taxi and limousine commission for an accurate ratio of cabs to private vehicles.' READ IT HERE!
I cannot find the whole video, but this is part of it. If anyone can find the full video, let me know in the comments. SAM HOUSER SAID:- 'We really know we are going to be able to go to the next level in terms of REALISTIC SIMULATIONS and REALISTIC immersion, combined with incredible narrative and incredible story telling and those two components combined are what are going to create the  experiences of the future!'

In this clip Sam Houser did not mention GTA particularly, but that game and games like Red Dead Redemption are what he was eluding to. If we lose the realistic objective to the games creation. The realism in the game, then we will dilute what the game is about and it will just turn into another shoot-em-up any concept goes type of game.

I'm going to be sarcastic now and say, hey what if we had jet packs and the ability to fly fighter jets, it will just spoil the game I think; Then, to keep it real as a player, you'd have to chose not to use those modes of transport (as I didn't in GTA San Andreas).

It is the same issue as teleporting or travel-to in RDR. Where you don't have to endure the journey, (but that's part of the hassle of travel in that era)!  It is what makes the game FEEL REALISTIC, but at least the game time clock moves on when you travel.

I think (it sounds to me like), RockStarGames are playing that mind-game and bowing to the masses of Saints Row 3rd types and going off their promised route. (Even the video has been removed from YT over a year ago now), where Dan Houser was saying they will always try to 'keep it real' in GTA.

Realistic things that we could do possibly in the real world. Its not likely that a regular type of guy off the street, even if he has had military air-force training like the Trevor Character, that he would be able to steal a military jet and fly around without being shot down by other fighter jets.

Recover your car from an impound. (This is great) I talked about doing this in an old post ages ago, where abandoned cars can be impounded to the police compound and sold at auction if the car is not claimed, collect and paid for by the owner. (Along with any fines and fees for time it was impounded and fees cor the recovery).

All the things I don't like to hear! Armored Customisation. Bullet-proof tires and Armour C'mon its not a normal activity and unless it was done in a limmo or executive car Slowing down time!

WHAT an OUTRAGE!
RockStarGames paid The Guardian to cover GTA5!
What annoys me about R*. We have hundreds of GTA game fan sites, falling over each other to get into contact with R* about GTA5 and R* won't even give them the time of day. R* didn't even turn up at E3 as usual, yet they pay The Guardian - a news group that are not in the game industry? I bet more GTA fans read GTA fan sites than they do of The Guardian. (see last paragraph).

See it here, http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/gamesblog/2012/nov/12/grand-theft-auto-v-preview-gta-5 last paragraph says:-

QUOTE: "Update: This article was based on a press trip to New York, with travel costs and accommodation covered by Rockstar. I apologise for forgetting to notify readers of this when the article was originally uploaded."

Personally, I think that is an insult to GTA Fan sites, that they cover the travel costs and accommodation of a non game industry organization like The Guardian, When they won't even give GTA fan sites an interview. (And The Guardian are an organization that can easily afford their own travel costs and accommodation). I'm disgusted with R* for that. Thinking of all the fabulous game sites that have to scrimp and scrape to get RockStarsGames attention for an interview at their own cost.

Fnally, getting back to the

Have a great day!
