GTA 4AI (Not just a memorable number-plate)!
Some thoughts on the current AI in GTA4. Lets face it, the cops are stupid! The cops are so stupid it is unrealistic. As if you could really drive round in a stolen cop car, dressed (as Vlad puts it), as a country yokel.
What about when you steal a car, the police give up too easily. Then, you can even drive on the pavements, run over pedestrians, or even bully a copper, nudging him along the pavement with the car you have just stolen. WTF?
What about, causing an accident by pushing one car into another, (even into a cop car), or jumping from a moving car that runs over a pavement full of people with the cops sat watching in a car and cops being run over on the street. Nothing! they are quite hard to provoke! You can steal a cop car, just by trying the door of a cop car stopped in traffic, with two police officers in it. The roof lights-up, the sirens sound, the cops get-out and you get in and simply drive away. Way too easy!
My main gripe here is that when you have stolen a car, the police should always be on the look-out for it, especially if it is thousands of dollars worth of sports car or VIP car, a Limousine or cop-car.
In my version of the game, there would be cop level difficulty settings. You could return to the GTA4 stupid-cops level by selecting stupid-cop, or no-cops in the pause menu. This is for those of you who are shit-scared of the cops and cannot play or survive in realistic situations.
That was rude of me, wasn't it? I don't care! If you happen to meet me in COD - Black Ops, Hardcore, (I kill you), online, you will most likely be spending most of your game time waiting to re-spawn than actually playing! I like a bit of realism, it gets your adrenalin going. There's no real challenge left for me in GTA, since the cops AI level is too easy!
In addition to 'No-Cops' and 'Slow-Cops', I'd also have 'Regular-Cops', 'Hard-Cops' and 'Survivalist'. I know that the cops automatically get harder as you gain more stars, and this is where six-stars on survivalist would be almost impossible to survive, (and rightly so). But, honestly, I just want the cops to keep looking for that stolen car! You would have to get a large enough box van ready with ramps, or even a container lorry to hide the car as soon as it was stolen.
Whilst you are escaping the police, you should have options to take off and throw-away your jacket or have a reversible jacket of a different color. No-one must see you change your appearance, ducking down an alley or into a building or public loo. A taxi-cab or train ride. Currently taxi-drivers stop and run off, (what's that all about), they don't know who you are. They can only hear police sirens in the distance, they wouldn't know it was you! And trains don't stop do they, they just drive on through. This does not happen even in cop chase films, so why do they have it in the game!
If you do make it to the hide-out or lock-up without the police seeing you, then you have made it. You would still need to get the cars plates and color changed before you could use it, without being chased on sight by the cops. Think about it, we want a real-world experience. If you are not up for it, then just choose to play in scardie-cat, soft-core mode! Put away your bottom lip and wipe-away those tears little baby! You can beat the police in this mode, when there's no real challenge, off you go!
