GTA IV - Intro and Mission 1 - The Cousins Bellic.

The Cousins Bellic missions is where we meet our protagonist Niko and his side-kick cousin Roman.
There are lots of ideas for future GTA game missions within the GTA4 game missions themselves.
The locations alone are very inspirational for me, I always find myself imagining and dreaming about, what-if, we could use this building or yard for a business. Or live here or run a shop or some other type of business.
Anyway, I get very creative and excited about those ideas. So, whilst you watch this video, even if you have played it before and seen it a hundred times before. I ask you to now look at it through new eyes. Observe everything, (maybe I've missed something that you see; so, write in and tell me)!
Think of how and what other possibilities there could be for other missions as you watch. Then read on, as I am sure you will see what I am talking about and get a better feel for this approach as you watch other videos in this new series of posts I am making. PS. I did not make these videos, the respect goes to ACmanish on YouTube, remember to 'like' his videos and leave comments, ce vou plais.
I am not going to talk about the relationships and the storyline as such. Because if I did, it would spoil the game for you if you have not played it yet. Yes, there actually are lots of people who have never even played GTA, yes, I know, it is totally unbelievable!
A quick side track. (Mike, I thought you'd like that pun. So, pun intended)!
A friend of mine, Mike, in his 60's, he plays train sims and flight sims as do I; I was telling him of my new website,
UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
-. about a flight sim, because I know we both have the same interest. But, the conversation turned to GTA, because I said I would like the train yards to work in GTA, so that you could also ferry produce as well as travel around the game world in GTA.
I was amazed, he had only vaguely heard of GTA before, but had not realised that there were trains and planes in the game, (as I mentioned the return to San Andreas for GTA5 and that we previously could fly all sorts of planes and drive the train, he was bouncing off the walls with excitement)..
Mike (a PC gamer), does not even have a games console, (but he's getting one now)! (End of story).
So, I just thought that I would mention that little ditto, because there are still people who have not experienced or enjoyed GTA. Not to mention, all of the people who have not played through all of the missions and just jack-around in the game all the time after they get all of the map open to them.
Getting back to The Cousins Bellic.
I digress, The Cousins Bellic, (I'm feeling like Ronnie Corbett now, (search YouTube if you don't know who that is)), You see the ships cook, baking cakes and hiding diamonds in the mix. Our next protagonist, could be asked to help deliver such a cake, riding shotgun.
The Police FIB.
There could always be a job for our protagonist, each time the same ship docks. Eventually he becomes the main delivery man and has to evade the docks-security-police, customs-officers, the regular-police, police investigators and the - FIB, who are all constantly trying to break the diamond smuggling ring. There are also bounty hunters and thieves and opposing gangs who are trying to jack Niko's load. (Of Diamonds - please wash your mind out)!
At the Players Discretion.
Every diamond pick up could spawn a new threat to Niko's liberty, life or limb; Plus, the missions could get harder, at the players discretion, if you choose to turn up the heat and use a harder cop-level-difficulty setting and by adding other difficulty-level aspects to the mission, like turning off the HUD, (Head-Up-Display), the - GPS, (Global Positioning System), and the cop awareness meter. (The red-and-blue flashing circle on the map, that tells you the police are still aware of you). The reward you get would be higher!
Police Awareness.
In real life, you would not know, if the police are still aware of you, would you? If you see a cop and you had just stolen a car, you would not know if the cop had heard of the theft. Even if it had been announced on your illegal police-band-radio, that particular cop might not know about who they are supposed to be looking for! This could be a random thing in the game-tech side of things, lets not worry about how to do it!
HUD, (Head-Up-Display).
You should always have a view of your own health meter, because in real life, you know how well you feel. But, how is it that you can detect cops three streets away and see them on your map? Even in this hi-tech world we live in today, (let alone back in the 1980's game setting), I know of no-technology that lets criminals see all of the police locations about them! Yes, keep it in the future games for those fools who cannot play GTA! (Sorry if you are one of those fools)!
Fools Apology.
What I really mean, is that for those of us, (myself included as one of those fools occasionally), because I like to have an easy time every now and then; We could have a switch in the options menu to turn back to the GTA4 style of play, on and off. I do not think it is that hard to do for the game developers. They could even probably, give us different awareness levels of difficulty! The easiest could be, 'see-all-aware-cops' as we currently have it in GTA4.
Real Life Cops and Rhubarb!
Lets be honest, the GTA4 cops are total fools and way too easy, (fat and slow), for believability in GTA4. You can just walk up to a patrol car in traffic, try the door, (it is always locked with the cops sat in it), the police get out to arrest you and you just simply get in and drive away! How stupid is that! Next the police stop looking for the car, once you loose your wanted level!
Ditto.
If you needed a cop car for a specific mission, real life would dictate that you would have to steal a cop car that is perhaps, 'not-in-service' (under the radar), or even have a fake mock up made. You could get the same model of car or even an ex-police car, that you buy at auction and then re-paint it, to match the police cars. Otherwise, if just stealing a cop car in service, the police will never stop looking for it and it will be a top priority.
Black Market Goods.
You would of course initially steal a cop car, to get the equipment inside the car. Which would also be a black market commodity within the game. The engines are sought after by the boy-racers and the rest of the car can still be exploited via the scrap yards and second-hand parts sales distributors in the game world. Police radios for your cars, for other criminals cars, for the illegal taxis and boy-racers, police radios are the most highly prized and highly priced items.
A Disappearing Act!
A good revenue can be made stealing police cars, but it is a very high risk occupation. You need a place to store and hide the vehicle. Perhaps a box-van with ramps to hide and transport the car until the heat has died down after it has been stolen. If you are not going to use the car yourself, you will need to dispose of it into deep water or fire. Finger prints and all that stuff. Alternately, you will need the connections that you build up over time, if you want to make money from stealing cop cars.
Back to The Cousins Bellic.
"Funking Terrorist's" says Roman. You could also be a kind of vigilante, like when you do police missions, except that the terrorists are threatening your plans for world domination in LC. or San Andreas, by randomly bombing your own, or your friends and relatives businesses. They bomb restaurants and use car bombs, etc. I thought we were going to have a big play on this by the way GTA4 started. But where did that go, after the bridges opened there was nothing more!
Other Ideas List.
Car Import and Export business, legal and illegal. Working for those types of businesses, delivering, or finding cars. Later, owning those businesses and all the support businesses around those by working for them or owning them.
Dock Worker Jobs, moving stock about the docks (also see the fork-lift missions ideas). You would never own the dock, but you might own or rent warehouses and have various import and export companies that have offices. For all business types in the game, you would have the opportunity to work in them, own them later in the game, as well as buy from them or sell to them at any point.
.
Dock Security! There's no finer place to sleep and get paid for it than on night watch at the docks. Although it can be dangerous work and you could get the sack for sleeping on the job. Dock Security has its perks, like getting paid to look the other way once in a while. Let container trucks out during the night etc.. (I wonder what they could be carrying)?
Other things to notice.
In Romans apartment, there is enough room to store a small amount of stock in boxes, especially in the stairwell. provided we could lock the door. I imagine the Roman or Niko could do a little in black market sales, knocking off stores and warehouses, or even god-forbid actually really legally buy shit to sell. Boxes of trainer-shoes. Car radios or Hi-Fi's, TV's would be a tight fit to store, but there are also other places to rent like garages etc..
With all that, comes the risk of being robbed or broken into by other criminals if you are not vigilant, but we take care of that by using 'the-word-on-the-street.' People learn not to mess with you. There are only a few bigger criminals that will attempt an attack upon your operation. There's more to worry about from the law!
You put street urchins and street gangs, 'The Warriors' style, on the payroll and they provide some reasonable minor security for you, but their main benefit is to alert you via the telephone if it looks like someone is taking an interest in your lock-up.
So, we are just on the first run of the ladder, for ideas for things to put in the game. I will also be spinning off separate posts that are nothing to do with the videos as such, but, I might use the video to say, look-see.
There is much poverty in LC and I would have thought a lot of opportunity to clean the city up, via renovating shops and housing as and when you have the cash. Renting or buying up buildings or even working with sleeping partners who invest in you. You save a politicians family from a burning house and he helps you with planning permissions, etc. (He did not know, you set the fire)!
Anyway, that's it for this post. I've enjoyed writing it, so I hope you enjoy reading or listening to it. Also I hope it will inspire you to come up with some ideas for the game yourself. Please write in, (details below). One day, it will be built, if not by the Houser brothers and RockStarGames, I will find a way to make a similar kind of GTA style of game with all of this stuff in it!
Have a great day!
Niko.
