GTAV A NewGTAgame!

Do Not Say GTA!

Driver San Francisco is no GTA play or look alike!
Do Not Say GTA4 and Driver San Francisco in the same breath!

They are not the same type of game, so how can people keep referring and comparing them! I have just heard another stupid one elsewhere and it has set my blood boiling.

How can you compare Saints Row 3rd to F1 2011. The two games are as different as dog shit and sausages! Just because they seem to look alike, Oh its got carz in it, so its like GTA ain't it? F1 2010 and WRC dave got carz 2, so day r baszikly da same game int day! WTF?

Its not that I don't like Driver: SF, its a great game if you like arcade games for eight-year-old's.  LA Noire has a big game world wiv carz init. But that does not make it like GTA4! WRC is a sport for cars and so is F1 2010, that doesn't make them the same! (Its a bit like when people don't know the difference between soccer, rugby and American football. (Oh, dave all got balls in dem, so day r dee same).

I have my issues with GTA too, its not all glory for Rockstar. But, GTA4 and arguably GTA San Andreas were the best games that the world has ever seen. You would not appreciate it as much if you were into WRC, or COD, but, with a bit of study and understanding, anyone would soon realize that certain games that keep getting compared to each other, are actually not the same type of game.

If you just put a broad generic label on a game, that does still not make it the same type of game. I'm thinking of the term 'open-game-world' or 'free-roaming-RPG' as is the case. Well, Smugglers Run was an open world game. So was Red Dead Redemption, Burnout and Need For Speed, but they are not the same type of game, they are all very different in terms of game-play. (Which is where it counts).

Game-play is much different in each of these top games and even though I was a big Burnout fan, it is a totally different game to GTA, RDR, WRC, F1 2010, Saints Row, LA Noire, etc.

My issues with GTA.
Read some of my other posts, but I've been asking recently,
  1. "Where does Niko put that RPG rocket launcher"?
  2. And why do cars take three hours to spray up and then you have to keep on spending three hours every time you want to change the color?
  3. Why can't you choose the car color from the outset?
  4. Why does it only cost $100 to buy a new engine, tires, windscreens and all the other glass, straighten out all of the bodywork, fit a new wiring-harness and front and rear light sets and top it all off with a respray, wax and polish? (I know I'm getting upset, leave me for a minute, I want some time alone)!
OK, so that's just a small part of all the problems I could go on picking on GTA about. I could write a 100 point list here and now, but that's not what this post is about. I am just pointing out, to those people who think that I have some sort of love affair going on for GTA4, that, that is not the case. Although GTA4 is simply the best game we have ever seen, next to GTA San Andreas.

  • I would pick San Andreas, over GTA4 for the gang territory aspect and all the side missions for BMX, Taxi, Paramedic, Pimp missions and so on. Not to mention more vehicle variety, like hover-craft and planes from small light planes and jets up to the big passenger planes and jets you could fly. (Although, there was not much to do with them from a missions point of view, (there, I've just picked another hole in GTA), happy now. (I'm crying inside, believe me))!

Holy Saints!
Saints Row and Saints Row 2 were cartoon like in their appearance. This alone spoils the reality of it, as opposed to GTA4 being the best graphics we have ever really seen. GTA4 realism is even better than the much-over-hyped LA Noire!  The only real graphics boost, is in the actual characters faces. The rest of the game looks like one up from GTA San Andreas. (Somewhere in between that and GTA4).

Driver: San Francis-cost to much-Oh!
The release this week of Driver: San Francisco, annoyed me, because  I knew it was going to be a pile of shite before I even bought it. Yet I still had to have it, didn't I!   Now, I would not have paid the £37.97 I think it was, if I knew what I know now, after having played it for a few hours. I knew I didn't like it only after 5 minutes of driving, but, you know how it goes. I decided to give it a real good chance.

Driver Fans.
I was the biggest fan of 'Driver', the original game, where Tanner could walk about! Even though he walked like he'd shit his pants and looked like a demented preying mantis when running. My favorite missions from Driver, was the Wheelman job application. I've always wanted to see that done in GTA. Do you remember it, where Tanner has to prove himself and show off his driving skills to some would-be bank robbers in an underground car-park.

Now, if Rockstar (GTA), did that mission for us, they would not be pinching ideas from Reflections (Driver), because Reflections took that themselves from a film, The Driver (1978). Go see a post about the Driver Mission in the original Driver game and the film it was taken from.

Take note in the first video, that only the graphics have improved, (I'm not joking), from the original Driver game, to the newly released Driver: San Francisco! The 'driving' side, which is what Reflections say this game is all about, is not much short of the same handling we had back then! What a pile of crap!

Niko. - I am just going off to shoot myself, goodbye cruel world!
