GTAV A NewGTAgame!

GTA Protagonists Stamina and Sleep

GTA Protagonists Stamina and Sleep

Another problem that has a lack of reality in GTA is the fact that you can stay awake indefinitely. So long as you don't save, you can play for days.

About Time!
Time in the GTA world, if you didn't already realize it, is one hour in game time last only one minute in our real world time. Therefore 24 minutes for the player is actually 24 hours for out protagonist in the game.

Unreality?
Staying awake all the time is unreal, in reality, we cannot stay awake for more than a day and still be effective at work. In the interest of trying to bring a certain level of reality to the game, I base everything in the game on a best scenario of getting sleep of 6 hours in 24. This does not always have to be a game save, and can be just sleep to rejuvenate your stamina to normal levels.  Saves will always constitute sleep!

Sleeping is just laying down to sleep, the screen blanks momentarily and the clock advances 6 hours, (just like saving works currently in GTA).

42 Hour Day?
But, in the interest of game play, you can fore-go sleep for up to 42 hours, (without drugs). This actually ties in nicely with the recommended real-world advice of taking a break from game-play every 45 minutes or so. If you have had no in-game sleep for 42 hours (42 minutes of real time). You will drop where you stand. You will get 6 minutes warning (6 hours in game time), by your driving going hey-wire like as if you were drunk. Akin to falling asleep at the wheel, (and you can be arrested for dangerous driving maybe? Not sure yet)!

OMG its 5am!
If you are working normally, you might have to get up at 5am for work at 6am work till 6pm, then return home after a bit of socializing and business, to sleep for 11pm till 5am giving you the max normal stamina reset for the next day.

On the Piswasser all night.
However, you could go out on the piss all night after working all day or be working another job, doing a night taxi service or similar, or TWOKing cars or burglarizing peoples homes etc. You can still go to work the next day, but you will notice that you are starting to slow down after 36 hours of no-sleep. (by 5pm that next day). It would be in the last hour of your work, which may interfere with your wage bonus or not.

Speed it up!

Over the last 6 hours of maximum awake time, you will have quick blackouts, and occasionally drive as if you were drunk, because you are falling asleep at the wheel! If its your way, this is usually the point were you will resort to taking drugs like Speed to keep you awake. Caution, you will crash (black-out), after 24 hours and sleep for a day.

If you can make it home, you can either save or sleep, (saving is sleeping also), for six hours. Unless you have taken drugs of course, you won't be able to sleep or save for 12 hours after taking Speed and then when you do sleep you will sleep for a day.

If you are at a night-watch job, where you can sleep on the job, but may need to be woken by your co-workers in case of trouble. You cannot be woken until after 6 hours of normal sleep if you have pushed yourself past the 36 hours awake mark. You cannot be woken for 24 hours if drug induced. You will loose your job if the boss catches you sleeping on his business premises.

You can bribe your co-workers to cover for you whilst you sleep, but only if you do it before you go to sleep and it will cost you, (on the negotiation meter), twice your daily wage as a starting point!

You will miss any action that takes place and may loose your night watch job if the business suffers a loss of 10% or more, that could have been averted if you had been fit and able to do your job. You won't get that job back for a month under that ID.

Example of extended awake time.
Imagine this; Your normal work scenario conditions are, that you might only have one job 6am to 6pm, you would need to be up at 5am to travel to work at least. However, you decide to go out after work on a binge drinking session, clubbing or other all night activity like, burglarizing peoples homes, stealing cars or something of that nature, you might even just be out exploring.

  • From Monday 5am to Tuesday 5am is 24 hours awake. (Remember you still may have to go to work again at 6am to 6pm Tuesday).
  • From Tuesday 5am to 5pm Tues is 12 more hours still awake. (You will start to slow down after 5pm). Taking the drug -'Speed' will keep you awake a further 24 hours from whenever you take it, but you will then crash for 24 hours, probably missing a days work and thus loosing your job!
  • From Tuesday 5pm to 11pm is your last 6 hours of normal awake time that you can take. You will feel the effects of lack of sleep, blacking out or driving as if drunk. You must get some sleep by or before 11pm Tuesday or you will just drop where you stand. So, without the Speed drug, you slow down till 11pm when you will pass out from lack of sleep.

During sleep time, the screen will blank out for a few seconds and the clock will be advanced by 6 hours, (unless you have taken Speed, then the clock will advance 24 hours).

If you are staying in a public place like in a dump or a dive or disused house. Or if you fall asleep outdoors this is classed as a public place and you can be arrested for:-
  • vagrancy,
  • possession of drugs if you have them,
  • or use of drugs if you have taken them in the last 24 hours and,
  • your possessions may also be stolen, even your clothes!

If you have taken speed, this will give you 24 hours wide awake without any tiredness effects as normal, but at the 24th hour anniversary of taking the drug Speed, you will drop like a swatted fly, where-ever you are. Even in the middle of a burglary or car-chase. You may wake up in jail, or the hospital or both!

If you forget and take speed again, twice in the same 24 hours, you will suffer a drugs overdose, and end-up in jail-rehab for 2 weeks. If you have businesses owned and making money for you, they will continue to produce only half profits for you, since you are not there to look after them. If attacked, there will be no-one available to rebuild and repair, eventually you may loose the business!

Info. - Generally, drugs are very bad for you. Just say no!

‘Speed’ is one of the street name for a range of amphetamines such as Amphetamine Sulphate, Dexedrine and Dexamphetamine. A bit like cocaine, amphetamines are stimulants that people take to keep them awake and alert. The effects of amphetamine can kick in within half an hour of ingesting depending upon your bodies resistance and mass, to the amount you take, if taken by mouth. The effects vari from person to person, but can last for 6 to 24 hours. The high is generally followed by a long slow comedown.
Slang names or street names for drugs can vary: Phet, Billy, Whizz, Sulph, Base, Paste, Dexies.

If you have a problem with drugs - Talk to frank!
